  13. This driver release is intended for use with IBM OS/2 2.1 GA (General
  14. Availability). This driver release will not work with any other versions of
  15. OS/2 prior to OS/2 2.1 GA.

  19. Adapters supported
  20. ------------------

  22. This driver release is intended for use with all Orchid Fahrenheit adapters
  23. (ISA & local bus) using the S3 86C911A, 86C911B, 86C924, 86C801 and 86C805
  24. graphics accelerators chipsets. Adapters with 512Kb memory are limited to 640
  25. x 480 x 256 resolution. Memory upgrade kits are available from Orchid
  26. Technology Customer Service Department (510 683 0394).

  28. Use of this driver release with non-Orchid adapters is not supported. Due to
  29. differences between Orchid adapters and non-Orchid adapters, the possibility
  30. exists for hardware damage and system damage if these drivers are used with
  31. any adapters other than the Orchid Fahrenheit 1280, 1280-D, Fahrenheit VA,
  32. 1280 Plus, VA/VLB, or the VLB/1280 Plus adapters.

  60. Orchid Fahrenheit Adapter configuration

  63. No special configuration settings are needed.

  70. Some I/O devices (FAX boards, internal modems, scanner cards, etc.,) use I/O
  71. addresses starting at 2E8 (hexdecimal). If these devices do not properly
  72. decode the full I/O address they can interfere with the function of the
  73. Orchid Fahrenheit adapters and drivers. Reconfigure, disable, or remove any
  74. adapter using I/O addresses starting at 2E8 (hexidecimal).

  76. If the system bus speed has been increased above the 8Mhz standard, reset it
  77. to 8Mhz. (After a successfull installation, the bus speed can be increased
  78. but be prepared, if anomalous behaviour occurs, to lower the bus speed.)

  82. Installation Procedure

  85. Before installing new drivers, it is recommended that a full back up of the
  86. OS/2 system partition be performed.

  88. If something should go wrong with the driver installation, instructions for
  89. restoring the video to VGA are to be found in the file README.S3 on the S3
  90. DRVS diskette.

  92. If the system is not currently configured for VGA, run selective install and
  93. restore the system to VGA, or use the SETVGA.CMD.

  104. Enhancements and fixes from prior releases

  107. These drivers are derivatives of the IBM/S3 OS/2 2.1 drivers and incorporate
  108. all the features offered by those drivers. These include conformance to the
  109. IBM OS/2 2.1 32-bit architecture, palette management, and automated
  110. installation.

  114. Known Shortcomings or Problems

  117. You need to have the latest BIOS version for the 911 and the 924 chips for the
  118. WINOS2 seamless support.
